Rt Rev. Bishop Anthony Selvanayagam D.D. announces the Penang Diocesan Eucharistic Congress in conjunction with the Jubliee year 2000 celebrations.
My dear Brothers and Sisters, Feast of Corpus Christi, 6th June 1999. Greetings to you! We began the new year 1999, the Year of the Father, with the theme, "A People Responding to the Father". The Father showed His Love for us through the Pascal Mystery of Jesus Christ as we celebrated Easter two months ago. Two weeks ago, we received the love of the father and Jesus as the celebration at the Feast of the Pentecost when the spirit was given to us. Last Sunday, we were reminded of the unique communion between the Father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit when we celebrated Trinity Sunday. All these celebrations, together with the "events" and "monthly reflections" at our parish levels, were some of the ways in responding to the Father and the building of our Basis Ecclesial Communicaties (BECs). In this way we are in line with the Diocesan Target for the the Jubliee Year 2000 namely:
We are growing slowly but surely in experiencing communion in our BECs and the parishes. By the Jubliee Year 2000, I am sure that we can celebrate the experience of our unity. Therefore today, I am happy to announce that we shall be having a Eucharistic Congress in conjunction with our Jubilee 2000 celebrations, climaxing on Corpus Christi Sunday 2000. The theme for our Eucharistic Congress will be:
The heart of the Church is the Eucharist. The Eucharist unites us as families, BECs, parish and Church. The remaining months of 1999 and the Jubilee Year 2000 should be a time of grace to have a better understanding of the Eucharist (Mass) to appreciate it and to live it out in our daily lives. The Diocesan Animating Team (DAT), together with the Eucharist Congress Committee (ECC) will provide materials for study and reflection at BECs. Make full use of them for your personal, family and communal growth. I call upon all priests, Parish Pastoral Councils, Parish Animating Teams, organisations and individuals to support, promote and participate fully in the preparation towards the Eucharistic Congress for the Jubilee Year 2000. Let us become truly Eucharistic Communities.
May the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ bless you!
Sincerely in the Lord,
Rt. Rev. Anthony Selvanayagam, Bishop of Penang.
